CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On February 18, 2025, the Exit and Entry Administration of the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau announced remarkable outcomes from the enforcement of China’s expanded 240-hour visa-free transit policy. Implemented on December 17, 2024, this policy grants foreign nationals the ability to stay in Chongqing for up to 240 hours during their transit. Within just two months, the number of foreign visitors arriving through Chongqing’s ports has soared by 60%, amounting to over 23,000 arrivals. Notably, the number of foreign nationals entering visa-free has skyrocketed by an astonishing 245%.
Since the implementation of the 240-hour visa-free transit policy, over 23,000 foreign visitors have entered through Chongqing’s ports, marking a 60% increase compared to the same period last year. Alongside the 245% surge in visa-free arrivals, the number of travelers entering with a port visa has increased by 91%, and those opting for the 240-hour visa-free transit option have risen by 118%.
To maximize the benefits of China’s visa policies, the Chongqing Exit and Entry Administration has seamlessly integrated the 240-hour visa-free transit policy with other visa exemptions and port visa options, providing a comprehensive suite of entry facilitation measures. These endeavors align with Chongqing’s aspirations for heightened international openness.
A spokesperson from the Port Visa Office of the Chongqing Exit and Entry Administration emphasized that they will continue to enhance service quality and management efficiency, striving to contribute to the city’s growth and its high-quality development through effective border control and immigration services.
