CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- From Chinese mythology to homegrown animation, from sci-fi thrillers to traditional martial arts, this year’s Spring Festival holiday movie lineup has been critically acclaimed and a commercial success.

On February 4, the final day of the Spring Festival holiday, reporters from Maoyan Professional Edition revealed that the total box office for films in Chongqing during the 2025 Spring Festival holiday exceeded 200 million yuan, setting a new record. This marks a more than 30% increase compared to the same period last year.

Among the top performers, “Nezha II” led the pack with a staggering 107.7115 million yuan, accounting for over half of the Spring Festival box office in the region. It was followed by “Detective Chinatown 1900” and “Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force”, which rounded out the top three spots.

In a significant move to encourage moviegoers, the Chongqing government launched the 2025 Film Consumption Season “Movie Days: Savor the Savings” just before the Spring Festival. In collaboration with platforms like Taopiaopiao and Meituan and financial institutions such as UnionPay and ICBC, the Chongqing Film Bureau issued 1.3 million consumption vouchers valued at 5, 10, and 15 yuan. These vouchers, distributed to moviegoers throughout the city, were valid during key film seasons such as Spring Festival, May Day, summer holiday, Mid-Autumn, National Day, and weekends.
