CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to Chongqing Morning News, the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush is coming, set to run from January 14 to February 22, lasting for 40 days. According to data released by Meituan Travel, the top ten destinations for Spring Festival flight bookings so far are Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chongqing, Xi'an, Hangzhou, and Harbin. As the holiday season approaches, the busiest travel periods will occur in the three days preceding Chinese New Year’s Eve. The two weeks before the holiday will see a peak in flight bookings, with a typical “tidal” pattern in demand distribution. Interestingly, destinations known for intangible cultural heritage, such as Datong, Yangzhou, and Quanzhou, are seeing a dramatic surge in ticket bookings.
Where are people traveling this holiday? From the perspective of travel trends, northern winter sports destinations, and southern warm-weather getaways are both popular. Harbin remains the top destination for winter tourism this year. The data shows that destinations like Harbin, Mudanjiang, Beijing, Changchun, Zhangjiakou, Altay, and Changbai Mountain are receiving significant attention from travelers seeking snow and ice experiences. On the other hand, places like Guilin, Sanya, Xishuangbanna, Kunming, and Haikou continue to attract those looking for a mild winter escape, with searches for these destinations also on the rise.
As the first Spring Festival following the successful application of intangible cultural heritage recognition, the trend for “Heritage-themed New Year Trips” is gaining momentum. During the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, flight bookings to emerging non-heritage destinations like Datong, Yangzhou, Quanzhou, Xi'an, and Jingdezhen have seen remarkable growth, with bookings doubling compared to previous years. Interestingly, young travelers between the ages of 20 and 30 represent the largest group booking flights to these destinations.
Mr. Chen, a resident of Chongqing, shared his plans: “I’m going to Quanzhou for the Spring Festival holiday. I booked my flight a few days ago, departing on the second day of the New Year and returning on the sixth. The round-trip ticket was only around 1,300 yuan. I wanted to go somewhere warm in the winter, and compared to popular destinations like Hainan or Yunnan, some lesser-known spots offer a great way to experience the holiday spirit at a very reasonable price.” (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
