CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- As the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, travel and homecoming bookings are reaching their peak. According to the 2025 Spring Festival Travel Trend Report released by Fliggy, the spring festival travel rush is expected to peak around January 20 and last through January 28, with “returning home for the Chinese New Year” being the main reason for travel during this period. From January 28 to January 30, demand for holiday trips will surge, with family travel emerging as the dominant vacation mode.

This year, the official Chinese New Year holiday lasts for 8 days, but many companies are offering extended breaks of 10 or even 11 days. Many office workers are also opting for longer vacations by combining holidays, using strategies such as “take 2 days off for an 11-day holiday” or “take 4 days off for a 13-day holiday”. In addition to visiting relatives and family reunions, more and more consumers are choosing to use their extended time off to plan their first trip of the Snake Year. According to Fliggy's data, bookings for international travel, including hotels, flights, and tours, have already far surpassed last year's numbers.

Affordable flight prices and more relaxed visa policies have made countries within the “four-hour flight zone”—Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore—the top overseas destinations for Chinese New Year bookings on the Fliggy platform. Longer holidays are also encouraging more consumers to explore destinations further afield. As of now, the top ten international destinations with the fastest growth in bookings for 2025 are mainly located in regions with a flight duration of 8 hours or more, including Hungary, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia.

On the domestic front, major cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Chengdu remain the hottest destinations during the Spring Festival. At the same time, the extended holiday is driving a surge in long-distance travel, with destinations like Nujiang in Yunnan, Zhongwei in Ningxia, Lincang in Yunnan, Chongzuo in Guangxi, and Dehong in Yunnan leading the nation in booking growth.

Chongqing, in particular, is experiencing a growing interest in travel bookings. Fliggy forecasts that popular destinations for Chongqing residents during the Spring Festival will include Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Hainan. Meanwhile, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Fujian will be major sources of visitors to Chongqing. Key attractions in Chongqing, such as the Chongqing Zoo, Two Rivers Night Cruise, Wulong Three Natural Bridges, Fairy Mountain National Forest Park, and Chongqing Happy Valley, are expected to be among the city's most visited spots during the holiday.

In addition, family travel is set to dominate this year's Chinese New Year holidays. Fliggy predicts that the proportion of family travelers will increase further compared to last year. Recent data shows the booking share for children's flights has nearly doubled week-over-week. The trend toward family travel has also led consumers to place more emphasis on the quality of their vacations, with bookings for high-star domestic hotels on Fliggy up by over 40% compared to the same period last year.
