CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing Railway Station Comprehensive Transportation Junction Project commenced on January 2.

Chongqing Railway Station, also called as “Caiyuanba Railway Station” by Chongqing people, is the departure and terminal station for Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, which is the first railway designed and built independently since 1949. It now serves as an end-of line station with 3 platforms and 7 tracks, with the station building covering an area of 26,000 square meters.

The station building and its supporting bub works of Chongqing Railway Station, with planned construction area of 620,000 square meters in total and total investment of around 15 billion yuan, will be built in phases. The current phase, with an investment of about 6.6 billion yuan and a construction period of 3 years (2025 - 2027), includes railway station building and related works, supporting hub works, integrated development works, supporting municipal transportation works and civil air defense works.

The updated station will introduce two high-speed railways and one conventional-speed railway (the two high-speed railways refer to Chengdu-Chongqing High-Speed Railway and Chongqing-Changsha High-Speed Railway, while the conventional-speed railway refers to Chengdu-Chongqing Railway). After the reconstruction, the station will have 7 platforms and 14 tracks, a station building of 5 floors covering an area of 60,000 square meters. It is expected that 23.6 million railway passenger trips will be handled annually. Among them, there will be 5 platforms and 10 tracks for Chongqing-Changsha Railway, while 2 platforms and 4 tracks for Chengdu-Chongqing Railway. Supporting transportation hubs and related facilities will also be developed in a moderate scale.

In the future, Chongqing Railway Station will also introduce the under-construction and planned Rail Transit Lines 18 and 27, and will be connected to Lines 1 and 3, making it more convenient passengers for travel. (Translated by Jane, Fathom Language Limited)
