CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On December 21, the Chongqing Fengdu Nantian Lake Ski Resort was blanketed in a sparkling coat of snow as the 11th National Ice and Snow Season (Chongqing) and the 7th Chongqing Ice and Snow Sports Season officially opened. The event, themed “Having Fun with Ice and Snow, Creating the Future Together,” also marked the launch of the 5th Fengdu Nantian Lake Ice and Snow Tourism Season, under the “Travel with the Events” initiative.

The General Administration of Sport’s Winter Sports Management Center guides the event, which is organized by the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Sports, the Fengdu Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the People's Government of Fengdu County. The Winter Sports Administrative Center of Chongqing, the Fengdu Cultural and Tourism Development Committee, and the Chongqing Fengdu Nantian Lake Tourism Group are responsible for its execution.

In this enchanting snowy world, over a hundred ice and snow sports enthusiasts joined the ice and snow festival, celebrating the season’s grand opening.

More than ten ice and snow sports events running through April next year

The annual Ice and Snow Sports Season serves not only as a response to the National Ice and Snow Season but also as an important effort to sustain and expand the achievements of the “Three Hundred Million People Participating in Ice and Snow Sports” campaign, promoting the popularization of winter sports across the city.

This year's Ice and Snow Sports Season will run from December until April of next year. Over this period, more than ten snow-related events will take place, including the Sichuan-Chongqing Snow Volleyball Invitational, the Sichuan-Chongqing Public Ski Challenge, the 2024 Chongqing First Snow Balance Bike Exhibition Race, and the 4th Chongqing Hot Snow Miracle Inter-School Ski League. Ice events will also include the 2025 “Wanxiang Cup” Chongqing Figure Skating Invitational and the end-of-year ice stage play under the theme “all under heaven shares the same customs, and the whole country is united as one.” Additionally, a series of mass participation events will be held, such as the Chongqing Ice and Snow Sports “Seven Approaches” activity, the Wanxiang New Year Snowball Fight, and a Winter Carnival featuring snowball fights, snowman building, and snow rope jumping.

The debut of "Snow Balance Bikes" for children

"This new event is fantastic! My kid loves riding balance bikes, but he’s never tried the snow version. When I heard about this, I immediately signed him up with his friends!" One parent excitedly shared, as they filmed their child competing in the Snow Balance Bike Exhibition Race during the Ice and Snow Sports Season.

This year, in addition to traditional snow volleyball and skiing events, a brand-new event, the first-ever Snow Balance Bike Exhibition Race, was introduced.

On the snow track, young competitors, dressed in colorful outfits, zoomed past each other with impressive speed, their faces lit up with determination and confidence. Parents and a crowd of curious onlookers cheered them on from the sidelines, creating an atmosphere of joy and excitement.

Elsewhere, a sharp "bang!" echoed through the air as a volleyball was spiked with force in the snow volleyball match, causing another eruption of cheers and applause. Talented players from both Sichuan and Chongqing battled it out in an intense display of skill and sportsmanship.

Meanwhile, the Sichuan-Chongqing Ski Challenge was in full swing. Participants, clad in vibrant snow gear, carved their way down the slopes with elegance and precision. The combination of speed, technique, and the energy of the snow and ice stirred the crowd, with many spectators pulling out their phones to capture the thrilling moments.
