2024 "Dengying Cup" Cube Competition for University Students concludes in Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The 2024 "Dengying Cup" Cube Competition for University Students concludes at Chongqing College of Mobile Communication on December 8. The event drew more than 260 student participants from 210 universities across 32 cities in China. After an initial round of qualifications and selections, 145 competitors from 84 universities, including prestigious institutions such as Peking University, Fudan University, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, gathered at the Qijiang campus of Chongqing College of Mobile Communication for the grand finale. Among the participants were prominent figures such as the 2019 Rubik's WCA World Championship and former Asian record holder for both 2×2×2 and 4×4×4 cubes.

The event saw a range of distinguished guests, including Liu Hu, President of the Chongqing Cube Association; Li Mingzhe, organizer of ONE Cube Events; blindfolded speedcubing athletes and coaches; Shi Xin, a top-four finalist of China’s "Super Power" Cube Competition; and senior coaches and professional judges from the Chongqing Cube Association, such as Wang Yu, Liu Yi, Chen Siyu, and Wang Shang, who were all present to lend their support. "As part of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Rubik's Cube, our goal is to build a platform for students passionate about cubing to exchange ideas, foster friendly competition, and showcase the art of speedcubing," said the event coordinator at Chongqing College of Mobile Communication.

The competition featured five events: 2×2×2 cube, 3×3×3 cube, 4×4×4 cube, Pyramid Cube, and the 3×3×3 team relay race. The tournament followed the official rules set by the World Cube Association (WCA). After preliminary and final rounds, the top three winners in each category were determined.

A highlight of the competition was the outstanding performance of Li Jiazhou, a Peking University student and the 2019 Rubik's WCA World Champion. Additionally, Wu Heng from Chongqing University, the former Asian record holder for 4×4×4 cubes, also became a key figure in the competition, with many students eagerly honing their skills while looking up to these experts. The competition results were announced in the afternoon: Li Jiazhou swept all four individual titles in the 2×2×2, 3×3×3, 4×4×4, and Pyraminx events. Meanwhile, the 3×3×3 team relay race was claimed by Sichuan University, with Xidian University and Guizhou Minzu University taking second and third place, respectively.
