Inheritors of intangible cultural heritage providing immersive experience for the teachers and students from Chongqing University

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On November 15, the three-day activity "2024 Intangible Cultural Heritage · Chongqing University" kicked off, featuring over 30 inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and several instructors from the Sichuan Opera base, who brought a 72-hour immersive experience in intangible cultural heritage for the teachers and students from Chongqing University.
The activity was rich and diverse in content, including traditional art performances such as Sichuan Opera face-changing, dough modeling, palm-leaf weaving, sugar painting, tie-dyeing, and embroidery, each attracting the attention of the faculty and students present.
The reporter found that in the “Exploration of Intangible Cultural Heritage” section, the organizers created an fun and interactive learning space for intangible cultural heritage focused on three main themes: "Learning a Skill," "Enjoying Five Flavors," and "Practicing Six Arts".
“It takes rooster feathers, metal pieces, fabric, and sewing needle to make a feathered shuttlecock. Although materials needed are simple, it's not easy to make a good shuttlecock,” said Li Xinglan, an intangible cultural heritage inheritor of handcraft feathered shuttlecocks, as she guided students in making handcrafted feathered shuttlecocks and shared her experience as an intangible cultural heritage inheritor of feathered shuttlecock.
Li Xinglan introduced that a feathered shuttlecock is a unique local product in Chongqing that is made by combining various types of feathers in different shapes with coins of varying sizes through skillful methods of adjusting the weight of the base, along with traditional handcraft techniques.
In recent years, Li Xinglan has brought her feathered shuttlecocks into primary and secondary schools across Chongqing and even the rest of the country, imparting her knowledge and techniques to students. By doing this, she hopes to stimulate more people’s interest in and pass on this intangible heritage skill, and encourage more people to participate in the sport of kicking shuttlecocks.
In addition to experiential activities, there were also exhibitions of eight series of illustrations and physical objects under the themes of "Color," "Embroidery," "Weaving," "Literature," "Tools," "Sculpture," "Food," and "Body" Through these vivid displays and interactive experience, students not only obtained skills but also gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of the value of traditional culture.
Chongqing University took this opportunity to launch an original theme song titled "The Girl Jianshou" based on the national intangible cultural heritage project "Duma Jianshou". The lyrics were written by Wu Jiong, a teacher dispatched by Chongqing University to serve in Lvchun County, and the music was composed by Zhang Shibin, a well-known musician and alumni, aiming to promote the millennia-old traditional culture of the Hani nationality through music.
A related official from Chongqing University stated that the university are working to make food use of the Traditional Chinese Culture and Arts Inheritance Base (Sichuan Opera · Chongqing University) as a platform, and making more efforts to bring in outstanding intangible cultural heritage resources such as classic opera repertoires and traditional dances, while creating original quality works by harnessing professional talent, and increasing more exhibitions and exchanges to expand social range. The original dance "Hand Dragon Performers" appeared on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala as the only university dance work with independent dance segments, showcasing the profound connotations and unique charm of the intangible heritage of dragon dance.
