National Weightlifting Championship 2024 conclude with Chongqing Team winning 2 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On October 28, “Jinwei Cup” National Weightlifting Championship 2024 and the Qualification Round for the 15th National Games concluded in Dongguan, Guangdong Province.

According to Chongqing Weightlifting Management Center, Chongqing’s weightlifters fought hard and performed excellently, securing a total of 2 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Chongqing women’s weightlifting team won 2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals, achieving second place in the overall team score, while Chongqing men’s weightlifting team also earned 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

The competition officially commenced on October 17, attracting 67 teams from across the country (31 women’s teams and 36 men’s teams) with a total of 525 athletes competing for qualification for the 15th National Games.

Chongqing is strong in weightlifting, having produced numerous competitive athletes on both national and international stages. On the field, Chongqing’s weightlifters continuously explored the limits of their strength, with powerful performances that energized the audience and perfectly illustrated the essence of sportsmanship.

In the women’s competition, Chongqing athlete Liu Feng won the gold medal in the 49kg clean and jerk category; Wen Zhongmei took the silver in the 49kg snatch and the bronze in the clean and jerk, finishing with a total score of silver medal; Liu Mengjia secured the gold medal in the women’s 55kg snatch and placed fifth in the clean and jerk, earning a total score of silver medal. Liu Mengjia also set a new world youth record with a snatch of 99kg; and Wu Tingting won the bronze medal in the women’s 71kg clean and jerk, placing sixth in total score.

In the men’s competition, athlete Li Dayin claimed the silver medal in the men’s 89kg snatch and a bronze medal in total score; athlete Cheng Jun placed sixth in the men’s 67kg snatch and fifth in total score.

“My performance and results were generally in line with my expectation during this competition. My main goals for participating in this championship were to manage injuries and secure a qualifying spot”, Li Dayin told the reporter. He noted that he felt a significant improvement among athletes from across the country and would focus more clearly on the intensity and direction of his training in preparation for the National Games, aiming for satisfactory results.
