CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group announced on October 21 the launch of four newly upgraded 8-car trains on Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) Line 3. This enhancement replaces the previous six-car trains with eight-car models, significantly boosting the line's transportation capacity and injecting new energy into the city's urban transit network.
CRT Line 3, spanning 67.09 kilometers from north to south, serves as a critical backbone of Chongqing's rail transit system.
Before the upgrade, Line 3 operated an average of 65 trains on weekdays, with 41 of those being eight-car models. The introduction of the four new upgraded trains raises the proportion of eight-car trains to 69.2%, increasing the daily transportation capacity from 951,000 to 958,000 passengers. This improvement helps alleviate congestion during peak hours and better accommodates the growing travel demands of Chongqing's residents.
During weekday peak times, trains run at a minimum 2-minute and 30-second headway. The service operates on overlapping routes from Yudong to Jiangbei International Airport, Jiugongli to Longtousi, and Sigongli to Longtousi, while maintaining an independent route from Bijin to Jurenba.
The Chongqing Rail Transit Group has indicated that the transformation of 6-car trains to 8-car models will continue, with plans to gradually increase the number of 8-car trains on Line 3. These efforts aim to enhance travel convenience and comfort for residents. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
