CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In the rich picture scroll of contemporary art, Chinese oil painting showcases its unique brilliance. On the morning of September 25, the 4th Chongqing Oil Painting Biennale Exhibition opened at the Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, showcasing 182 outstanding oil paintings. The exhibition features masterworks by renowned artists such as Luo Zhongli and Pang Maokun, presenting a dual feast of visual and intellectual experiences for visitors.
The exhibition publicly solicited nearly a thousand excellent works from across the country, ultimately selecting 182 pieces and awarding 21 prizes. The exhibition is themed on “Landscape Reconstruction”, and divided into five sections, reflecting artists’ profound insights and unique expressions regarding nature, culture, urban life, spirituality, and future.
Since its initiation by Chongqing Oil Painting Society in 2018, Chongqing Oil Painting Biennale Exhibition has gradually developed into a major oil painting exhibition with significant influence in China.
Within the exhibition hall, visitors can feel the temperature of the artists’ brushstrokes, experiencing both the vibrant visual impact of bold colors and the romantic atmosphere created by softer tones. The displayed works depict portraits of the times, capturing moments for ordinary people, allowing visitors to witness the intersection of history, the present, and the future, while showcasing the brilliance of traditional Chinese culture through artistic creation.
One of the awarded artists, Luo Dan, presented an oil painting titled Walking Through 2024-0524-6, inspired by the caisson ceiling of Dunhuang murals and infused with youthful and modern elements. Luo explained that “in my creation, I combine traditional culture with modern life, hoping to explore the inheritance and development of traditional culture in contemporary society”.
The exhibited works range widely in artistic vocabulary and depth of thought, reflecting a rich emotional palette, and they encompass everything from the local spicy hotpot to rail transit, from industrial production to plains and mountains, featuring a blend of academic style and familiar everyday life, as well as imaginative breakthroughs and demonstrating the artists’ formal exploration and linguistic innovation in the context of the times. Works by local well-known artists such as Luo Zhongli’s Early Spring and Pang Maokun’s Guests from Afar attracted considerable attention from visitors.
The exhibition will run until October 10, and citizens are invited to visit the Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute for free. (Translated by Vichy, Fathom Language Limited)
