CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In 2022, there were 3,366 trips with a total cargo value of approximately 2.201 billion yuan; in 2023, the number rose to 4,086 trips worth around 2.789 billion yuan; and from January to August 2024, there were 2,867 trips valued at about 2.172 billion yuan. A recent display at Chongqing ASEAN International Logistics Park showcased the dynamic “report card” for these services, indicating an increase in the “value” of cross-border shuttle bus operations. Yang Min, General Manager of Chongqing Highway Logistics Base Construction Co., Ltd., introduced to the central media and municipal mainstream media participating “High-quality Development Research Tour · Chongqing” and mentioned that “the built area is functioning well, and the base has ample room for development, which is our greatest advantage”.

Logistics Base market transaction volume nears 600 billion yuan

Chongqing Highway Logistics Base, located near the Ring Expressway, offers unique geographic advantages, making access to airports and ports very convenient. In 2023, the base was approved as a trade service-oriented national logistics hub, helping Chongqing become the first city in China to establish a “five-type” national logistics hub. The base focuses on developing the national logistics hub economic zone and ASEAN trade service headquarters, having attracted 80 leading commercial logistics enterprises including JD, Xinfadi Market, SF Express, and STO Express, with over 6,000 market entities involved. This has led to the formation of five major industry clusters, including professional markets, e-commerce, integrated logistics, international trade, and food and agricultural processing, achieving nearly 600 billion yuan in market transaction volume.

Chongqing Highway Logistics Base serves as the starting point for the cross-border shuttle bus of the New International Land-sea Trade Corridor, which currently operates 11 international transport routes covering the entire Indo-China Peninsula and some countries in Central and South Asia. This is closely integrated with Chongqing Nanpeng Highway Bonded Logistics Center (Type B), International Distribution (Highway) Customs Supervision Center, and ASEAN Commodity Centralized Purchasing City, deepening involvement in the construction of the New International Land-sea Trade Corridor. “Changing the head and lifting the cargo significantly improves port clearance efficiency”, Yang Min said, noting that the goods transported mainly include Southeast Asian fruits such as mangosteen, bananas, and durians, with faster clearance being preferable. Currently, these buses represent one of the three main transportation methods operating along the New International Land-sea Trade Corridor (including railway-sea multimodal transport trains, international rail transport trains and cross-border highway shuttle buses).

ASEAN Commodity Centralized Purchasing City attracts citizens to buy ASEAN goods

Laotian beer, Thai latex mattresses, various imported goods from Southeast Asia, and Vietnamese coffee are neatly displayed on the shelves of the ASEAN Commodity Centralized Purchasing City, located within the highway logistics base in Banan. Since its opening on June 28, 2020, the project has greatly facilitated shopping for citizens who enjoy “overseas purchasing”.

“By following our WeChat Official Account, you can order your desired products online”, the person in charge stated, explaining that citizens can access the “ASEAN Commodity Centralized Purchasing City” section through “ASEAN International Logistics Park” WeChat account to view products with marked prices for easier selection. Currently, the first phase of the ASEAN Commodity Centralized Purchasing City covers an area of 2,300 square meters and is actively introducing dealers for various popular products such as handicrafts (including silverware, wooden products, and stone carvings), jewelry accessories, and household items.

JD Logistics provides speedy delivery for citizens

The speed of delivery relies on seamless integration across various transport stages. At JD Logistics Chongqing Banan Operation Center, a large delivery truck arrived, and the unloading conveyor belt reached the truck’s entrance, where workers efficiently loaded parcels onto the conveyor belt, facilitating orderly delivery to the sorting line.

“Apart from loading and unloading, all other stages are automated”, said Chen Yang, Head of the Center. The fastest conveyor belt can operate at 120 meters per minute, ensuring sorting efficiency; it can sort up to 1.6 million parcels daily, enabling timely transfers for parcels arriving from various locations through this “hub”, providing a “speed boost” for citizens’ deliveries. The entry of leading enterprises has accelerated industrial agglomeration; and Yang Min noted that JD’s presence has brought together 17 industries here, demonstrating a significant role in driving this effect.
