CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing produced 1.54 million vehicles from January to August 2024, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the previous year, according the Automobile New-Quality Productivity Development Forum in Chongqing. Notably, new energy vehicles (NEV) accounted for 525,000 units of the total, marking a remarkable 151.4% growth, outpacing the national average by 122.4 percentage points. This year, Chongqing aims to achieve an annual target of producing one million NEVs.
In recent years, surrounding the development of the intelligent connected NEV industry, Chongqing has stepped up its efforts in building a robust industrial ecosystem. The city is now home to over 1,200 auto parts enterprises of designated scale, including more than 300 specializing in intelligent connected NEV components, achieving comprehensive coverage across three major systems, 12 assemblies, and 56 core components essential to NEV production. Additionally, Chongqing is driving technological innovation by supporting leading vehicle manufacturers, such as Changan and SERES, in integrating R&D resources to introduce more advanced products to the market.
An official from the Chongqing Economic and Information Commission highlighted that the city's NEV output growth rate now ranks first among China’s top ten automotive cities. In the first half of the year, Chongqing produced 1.214 million vehicles, reclaiming its title as the No. 1 Automobile City in China after an eight-year hiatus. The official also noted four key trends: Chongqing-produced NEVs hold a larger share in the medium- to high-end market, their self-owned brands are gaining stronger influence, the vehicles showcase higher technological innovation, and the city's NEV industrial ecosystem is becoming increasingly sophisticated.
