The 8th National Indoor Skydiving (Wind Tunnel) Championship kicks off in Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On September 19, the 8th National Indoor Skydiving (Wind Tunnel) Championship 2024 of China Sports Lottery, opened at Jihua Park in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing. This competition is the highest-standard, top-level, and largest-scale event of its kind in China, and has been held in Chongqing for eight consecutive years.
This thrilling and exciting "flying human" air competition lasted for three days, involving over 100 athletes from 11 skydiving teams across the country. The Macau Indoor Skydiving Association signed up for this competition for the first time. The entire event is open to the public for free.
“Indoor skydiving (wind tunnel) is safer and more cost-effective than traditional skydiving and is becoming a trendy air sport worldwide, suitable for mass participation,” said Zhang Caixia, director of the Second Sports Division of the Aviation Radio Model Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, adding that the center is actively promoting national fitness and the development of air sports, and indoor skydiving, being suitable for people of all ages, has attracted more and more enthusiasts.
It is learned that the competition combines the features of both outdoor and indoor skydiving. Athletes can fly in a "space capsule" with wind speeds exceeding 200 kilometers per hour, performing rotations, jumps, flips, and spins. Sometimes, groups of four athletes form required formations, such as mid-air splits, hovering handstands, and even street dancing with "moonwalks" in the air…
Zhang Shangyi, the technical director of indoor skydiving at Jihua Park in Liangjiang New Area, introduced indoor skydiving as one of the park's "star events," loved by sports enthusiasts.
